Cupping has been practised for thousands of years worldwide for the treatment of disease and pain.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, cupping involves placing glass,
plastic, or bamboo cups on the skin with a vacuum. This therapy is used to relieve
stagnation of blood, energy (Qi), and lymph.
It's uses include relieving pain in the muscles, especially back pain from stiffness or
injury, and clearing congestion in the chest, which can occur with colds and flu.
Cupping has also found popularity amongst famous Hollywood stars such as Gwenyth Paltrow
who caused excitement after showing up to a New York film premiere in 2004 sporting a
low cut top that revealed her back covered in large circular marks indicative of cupping.
